  • My Disa Scribblings
Afrodisa is owned and operated by Walter Orchard. I live in Yachats, a small town on the central Oregon coast. I grow my Disas in nearby Florence, where Jim Rassmann has generously provided me with greenhouse space.
This area is perfect for growing Disa orchids - it has cool summers, mild winters and plenty of good quality ("soft") water. Aside from the greenhouse, I have a small orchid laboratory where I flask the Disa seed and also do some propagation of select clones. My Disas bloom mostly in June, July and August, with peak flowering time in early July.
Mature Disas: My Disa collection numbers around 800 plants, about half of them being blooming size. I do sell plants within the USA. The best time to ship plants is in the fall - September and October.
Disa seed: I can prepare Disa seed for distribution. But, for this to be successful you need to contact me early on in the blooming season, around May. I have tried in the past to meet late requests for seed, and it is just a waste of time.

Disa flasks: If you are feeling brave and want to try growing Disas straight out of the flask, get in touch with me.
